For the gap between two dates

Storage for when the dates do not line up.

Settlement moves. The new place is not ready. You are going overseas for six months. None of it is unusual, and none of it should mean moving twice.

What you get

How storage works between two moves.

The idea is simple: your things are handled once, rather than unpacked into storage and packed again when they come out.

Stacked so you can get to it

Things sit for weeks or months, so the load goes in to a plan rather than however it came off the truck. Say what you may want back early and it stays reachable.

Inventoried

What went in is recorded, so what comes out can be checked against it.

Stored as a unit

Your belongings stay together rather than being distributed wherever there happens to be room.

Delivered when you are ready

Out of storage and into the new place, rather than you hiring a van and doing the second move yourself.

A stack of cartons strapped to a two-wheeler trolley, tipped back at a driveway crossover.

What changes the price

How storage is priced.

By the space you take up and the time you need it, and we would rather confirm it with you than publish a number that turns out not to apply.

  • VolumeThe cubic metres your belongings occupy, the same measure used for an interstate move.
  • DurationCharged by the period. A short gap between settlements is priced very differently from a year of storage.
  • Handling in and outLoading into storage and retrieving from it are each a piece of work in their own right.
  • Access while storedWhether you need to get to things during the period, which changes how the load is stacked.

The questions that set the price

This is the part everyone else skips.

Most forms want a name and a postcode and leave the real questions for a call you are still waiting on. Answer them here instead. It takes a few minutes, and it is the difference between a quote and a guess.

This form is not loading.

It needs JavaScript, and something is stopping it. Rather than have you answer seven questions that would go nowhere, here are the two routes that work without it.

Step 1 of 7
What kind of move is it?

These two types of moves are priced differently. Local is charged by the hour, interstate by the cubic metres your things take up on the truck.

Where are you moving?

The suburb is enough. The postcode and the state fill themselves in.

Moving from

Moving to

Local work is charged by the hour, and the rate follows the city the truck and crew come out of. Rates in Melbourne and Sydney are higher than in Brisbane.

How big is the place you’re leaving?

Property type matters as much as the number of bedrooms. A three-bedroom house is usually around 30 cubic metres, a three-bedroom unit closer to 24.

Bedrooms

How full is it?

Boxes alone are usually five to ten cubic metres, the part almost everyone underestimates.

Anything else to clear? Select all that apply.

How easy is access at each end?

A third floor with a lift is a different job from a third floor without one, and the lift usually has to be booked with the body corporate days ahead. We go through parking and the walk from the truck when we ring.

When are you moving?

Weekends cost more, and so does the stretch from the week before Christmas to mid-January, when most leases end. If your dates can shift by a few days, your move may fit on a truck already running your route.

How fixed is that date?

Anything else we should plan for?

Packing can be as much or as little as you want. A piano, a pool table or a safe is a job of its own: different gear, more hands, and its own price on top.

Special items

Where should we send your quote?

That is the hard part done. Everything you have answered goes to the person who prices the move, and they will have read all of it before they ring. The quote comes back in writing, split into lines. It is based on your answers, so it can change if the details on the day are materially different.

Thanks, we’ve got that.

Your answers are with the person who prices the move. The quote comes back in writing, split into lines, and they will ring to go through it. Your reference is .

Not ready for the full questionnaire

Leave three details.

The person who calls you back is the person who prices your move, not a call centre passing you from one person to another. Submitting this form does not book your move.

Where this usually comes up

Why people need it.

  • Settlement gapThe most common reason by far. You have to be out before you can be in.
  • RenovatingEverything out for a few months, then back into a different layout.
  • Going overseasLonger term, and worth packing accordingly.
  • DownsizingSomewhere for the overflow while you work out what stays and what goes.
  • Between rentalsA gap between a lease ending and the next one starting.

How it works

Four steps, and you are only committed at the third.

  1. 01

    You answer

What you have, where it is going, and every awkward thing about getting it out of one place and into the other. The awkward things are the ones that cost money.

  2. 02

    We price it

Off our own rate card, split into lines, in writing. Then a short call about what a form still cannot see: the carry to the truck, the turn at the top of the stairs, whether the lift has to be booked with the body corporate.

  3. 03

    Book your date

A deposit over the phone confirms your booking and allows us to arrange your move. You will know the truck size, the crew size and when they are due.

  4. 04

    Moving day

The independent removal provider booked for your date does the move. Beds go back together first, and cartons go into the room they were labelled for.

Straight answers

The questions people ask before they ring.

How long can I store things for?

From a few days between settlements to long term while you are overseas. Tell us roughly how long when you enquire, because it changes how the load is packed and stacked.

Can I get to my things while they are stored?

Say so up front. Access changes how a load is stacked. Things you may want are kept reachable rather than buried at the back.

What does storage cost?

It is priced on the volume you take up and how long you need it. We work it out with you rather than publishing a rate here that might not apply to your situation. Answer the questions about the move and storage is quoted alongside it.

Do I need to pack differently for storage?

Yes, and it matters. A load that will sit for months is stacked to a plan rather than however it came off the truck, with anything you might want back kept at the front. The crew works that out as it goes in.

Can it go to a different address later?

Yes. That is usually the whole point. You go into storage from one address and come out of it at another.

The driveway is the worst place to discuss money.

Answer the questions once. It comes back in writing, split into lines, and the person who priced it rings to go through it with you.
