The services we arrange

Most moves need more than one of these.

A house move with packing. An interstate move with storage in the middle, because settlement and the end of the lease rarely line up. The two are priced on different models, and which one your move falls under decides everything else.

How removals are actually priced

There is no single price for moving. There are two ways we price a move.

Local moves

Sold by time.

Crew hours and a truck, with a minimum booking. Access sets the hours far more than distance does. A shared lift and a dock booking can decide the morning before a single carton moves.

Interstate moves

Sold by space.

The cubic metres you take up on a truck, at a rate set by the route. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane have trucks running both ways constantly, so the rate is keenest there. Perth and Darwin see far fewer, and cost more per cubic metre because of it.

The questions that set the price

You do not have to know which. Start here.

You do not have to work out which model your move runs on. That is the first thing the questions settle, and getting it wrong is worth hundreds in either direction.

This form is not loading.

It needs JavaScript, and something is stopping it. Rather than have you answer seven questions that would go nowhere, here are the two routes that work without it.

Step 1 of 7
What kind of move is it?

These two types of moves are priced differently. Local is charged by the hour, interstate by the cubic metres your things take up on the truck.

Where are you moving?

The suburb is enough. The postcode and the state fill themselves in.

Moving from

Moving to

Local work is charged by the hour, and the rate follows the city the truck and crew come out of. Rates in Melbourne and Sydney are higher than in Brisbane.

How big is the place you’re leaving?

Property type matters as much as the number of bedrooms. A three-bedroom house is usually around 30 cubic metres, a three-bedroom unit closer to 24.

Bedrooms

How full is it?

Boxes alone are usually five to ten cubic metres, the part almost everyone underestimates.

Anything else to clear? Select all that apply.

How easy is access at each end?

A third floor with a lift is a different job from a third floor without one, and the lift usually has to be booked with the body corporate days ahead. We go through parking and the walk from the truck when we ring.

When are you moving?

Weekends cost more, and so does the stretch from the week before Christmas to mid-January, when most leases end. If your dates can shift by a few days, your move may fit on a truck already running your route.

How fixed is that date?

Anything else we should plan for?

Packing can be as much or as little as you want. A piano, a pool table or a safe is a job of its own: different gear, more hands, and its own price on top.

Special items

Where should we send your quote?

That is the hard part done. Everything you have answered goes to the person who prices the move, and they will have read all of it before they ring. The quote comes back in writing, split into lines. It is based on your answers, so it can change if the details on the day are materially different.

Thanks, we’ve got that.

Your answers are with the person who prices the move. The quote comes back in writing, split into lines, and they will ring to go through it. Your reference is .

Not ready for the full questionnaire

Leave three details.

The person who calls you back is the person who prices your move, not a call centre passing you from one person to another. Submitting this form does not book your move.

A stack of cartons strapped to a two-wheeler trolley, tipped back at a driveway crossover.

Why quotes change on the day

Five things decide what you pay.

They apply across every service. We ask about them up front, because finding them on the day is how a quote turns into an argument.

  • How much there isMeasured in cubic metres. A three-bedroom house usually lands around 30, and the cartons alone are five to ten of that. That is the part almost everyone underestimates.
  • Stairs and liftsA third-floor walk-up in a 1970s block is a different job from a third floor with a lift, and the lift has to be booked with the body corporate days ahead.
  • Where the truck parksA carry nobody mentioned is the most common reason a price moves on the day. Every metre from the door to the tailgate is time, and time is what a local move is sold in.
  • Your datesWeekends cost more. So does the run from December into January, when most leases end at once and the trucks are spoken for weeks out.
  • Packing and special itemsPianos, safes and pool tables are a job of their own: a specialist crew and the gear that goes with them. Tell us early, because they can change the truck and the timing, not just the price.

How it works

Four steps, and you are only committed at the third.

  1. 01

    You answer

What you have, where it is going, and every awkward thing about getting it out of one place and into the other. The awkward things are the ones that cost money.

  2. 02

    We price it

Off our own rate card, split into lines, in writing. Then a short call about what a form still cannot see: the stairs, where the truck can actually stand, how far the carry runs.

  3. 03

    Book your date

We book an independent removal provider for your date, and you get the arrival window and the crew size before the day.

  4. 04

    Moving day

The removal provider's crew arrives in the window. The cartons go to the rooms they are marked for, and the beds are standing again before the crew leaves.

Straight answers

Choosing between them.

Can I combine services?

That is the normal case rather than the exception. Most moves are a removal plus packing, or a removal with storage in the middle because settlement lands a week after the lease ends. Tell us the whole picture and it is priced as one job, not three.

What counts as local rather than interstate?

Local means within the same city or region, and it is sold by the hour. Interstate means between states or a genuinely long haul, and it is sold by the cubic metre. We work out which applies before anything is priced, because using the wrong model produces a number that is wrong for both.

Do I need to decide everything now?

No. A quote is not a booking. Get it priced first, then work out what you actually want. Most people add packing once they see how little it changes the total compared with a week of evenings.

Is a booking made online?

No. The questionnaire starts a conversation and nothing more; the booking is confirmed on the phone, and so is the deposit. The balance is paid to the removal provider on the day. You are never committed by anything you do on this site.

Which services are available where?

All of them, anywhere in Australia. Tasmania runs to the Bass Strait sailings rather than to road times, so the dates are set for you before you start. Availability on your exact date is a separate question, and we answer it on the call rather than at booking.

The driveway is the worst place to discuss money.

Answer the questions once. It comes back in writing, split into lines, and the person who priced it rings to go through it with you.
